This is an outfit I designed and created in High school Level 1 fashion design.
My objective with this garment was to design a Yukata that is more comfortable to wear and walk in, as traditional Japanese garments are only worn on special occasions and take up a long time to wear properly. Japan is my cultural background so I was able to bring my knowledge into the design of this garment. I also based the colors off of cherry blossoms against the blue sky, as it reminds me a lot of my childhood.
The crossover ties made out of pink strips of fabric were sewn where the fabric lies on the shoulder to keep the concept of the ‘Obi’, the fabric that goes on the waist to hold the Yukata in place, while making it a one-piece for more casual wear.
